Our area has many wonderful continuing care communities to offer. Check out the ones listed below. Also, check out the information presented on the government's Medicare site that provides detailed information about the past performance of every Medicare and Medicaid certified nursing home in the country. In addition, it includes information on payment and patient rights, and a nursing home checklist which will help you evaluate the nursing homes that you visit. Find it at http://www.medicare.gov/Nursing/Overview.asp. If you are among those older adults who hate to waste time calling a govenment agency and spending long minutes on hold, then you will love the federal government's site, Seniors.gov. It is for the over 50 crowd and part of the larger FirstGov.gov site, the official portal to all online US government information and services, including federal, state, local and tribal. A new long term care website was announced in July 2004. The new site, Techfor LTC.org, was created to provide easy access to information on technologies that can help provide higher quality care for older adults and people with disabilities. If you plan to move to another state when you retire, examine the tax burden youll face when you arrive. RetirementLiving.com has an abundance of information for seniors, but this feature, Taxes by State, is the best we've seen. Barclay
